Always drawn to artworks made of garbage. This is called “Between Heaven and Earth” and was made by the Ghanaian artist El Anatsui from recycled liquor bottle caps.

The beauty of the work stands in contrast to the origin of the materials, and the amount of time spent laboring on it is irreconcilable with the sheer amount of such material that exists in the world. That gulf between making and manufacturing is a sort of endless conundrum: the urge to stitch beauty from fragments of a broken system, and the large indifference of the world–which continues barreling forward with its production–to that project.
