Don Mitchell, who lives on the Big Island of Hawai’i, shared these photos of the volcanic eruption which he took from a helicopter. As I told him, some of these remind me of the sensation I had last summer, watching the total solar eclipse while standing in a flowing creek.

We live on a rock full of fire, and we live amidst water in its ever-shifting forms. There is light, wind, metal and chlorophyll. It’s amazing that we’re here.
