This one was taken at the Quarry Gardens in Schuyler, Virginia, where native plants are carefully catalogued, planted, shepherded. Reindeer lichen prefers soil high in zinc, and an expansive patch of it above the old quarry serves visually as a map of zinc-rich ground, in chilliest green. This is but a scrap of the whole.
