All this looking at the ground, finding things there, and here it shows up in Phil Cordelli’s Manual of Woody Plants, in a stanza from the poem titled Gleditsia triacanthos (Honey locust):

 

slingshot    musket

thy litter thy brood      selfsame

in thy tusk in thy pod in thy husk

thy rod and thy stuff

wholly under my boot

ungracefully on the rudiments of dirt
